Our days on the east and southeast coast were numbered with our final 2 days being spent in Adelaide. The main priority on arrival in Adelaide was to find our hostel, dump our bags and then get the car back to Hertz in one piece! The hostel was in a fantastic location right in the centre of town so it took no time at all to work our way through the town to a multi storey carpark and transfer all our things over. Unfortunately this was to be the grimmest to date by a long stretch. We were staying in a 4 bed dorm that had no windows or natural light and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a very long time, there were plastic covers over the pillows and mattresses and it was clear that the duvet covers hadn't been washed since their last use, or maybe even ten uses! The worst however was still to be discovered when we entered the kitchen and it was instantly clear that we wouldn't be cooking or eating in this hostel. It was disgusting, dirty, smelly and all the cutlery, plates and pots were foul with food left lying by previous residents now growing cultures of varying shades of green and blue, it was RANK!!!!!!!! It took us a good 10 minutes to recover from the shock of our new home and accept that we just had to make the best of it! After dumping our things and returning our car we headed for a walk around the town. We took in one of the older and prettier areas of the town housing the library, museums and art galleries and as we had a few online chores to do we were more than happy to take advantage of the libraries free wireless internet! After walking the streets of Adelaide for most of the afternoon we were in no rush to return to the hostel so we headed to the area of town with all the restaurants and bars and had a pizza for dinner. On returning to the hostel we braved the showers (wearing our flip flops) before heading to our bunk beds where we ended up having an amazing and very quiet nights sleep!!The next day was another scorcher so we took to exploring the town on foot starting with the huge produce market where we engaged our noses for the free samples and had a free breakfast of yogurt, cheese, fruit and cake! After walking our legs off at the produce market we bought some yogurt and went off in search of a green patch to rest our legs and consume our yummy purchase. After the market we had a walk around some of the shops and shopping centres as we had to get some bits and pieces for the next leg of our trip to the red centre. We had one final area of the town that we wanted to explore down at the river so with a couple of cold drinks we took a walk along the riverfront to watch the rowers avoid the numerous pelicans and black swans ruling the roost on the water! After our walk on the water we were both ready for dinner however one thing we knew for sure was that we were not going to be cooking dinner in the hostel so we went to have a look around another area of Adelaide well known for its restaurants and nightlife. After much deliberation we settled on a Thai place to get us in the mood for the next leg of our journey to Asia and it was amazing, one of the best meals i have ever eaten! Unfortunately i didnt like my choice so poor Michael had to swap his amazing delicious meal with mine so i definitely got the better deal although Mike says his wasnt too bad in the end! After dinner it was back to the hostel from hell for our last night and it was to be an early one as the next stop was our eagerly awaited trip to the red centre for a 2 day 1 night tour of Ayres Rock, Kings Canyon and The Olgas!
