It was a longer drive down to Palmerston North than we had anticipated and we arrived in time to have a quick drive around the town and then go to the supermarket to get supplies for dinner. We then headed to the campsite to find it was by far the worst one we had stayed in and were quite relieved that we only paid for 1 night! The next morning and the first job of the day was to sort out our visa for Australia. It is the only place that we are visiting that you require a visa and had been something we had been meaning to do since we got to New Zealand. We had been advised by our travel agent STA to pop into any STA in NZ and they would be able to sort out the visa for us. We also had our final 2 flights of our round the world package which had to have their dates confirmed and again we had been led to believe that STA could do this for us too. When we arrived at the travel agents we were advised that we would have to call and reconfirm the flights ourselves and because our stay in Australia was just over 3 months we would be unable to get an electronic visa we would have to arrange one through the Australian Consulate? So what started off as a couple of small chores was soon bumped up a notch. We were not convinced about the electronic visa advice given to us at the travel agent so we went to the library to use the internet to do some investigating of our own. To cut a long story short we each filled out an online visa application requesting a 6 month tourist visa and within 5 minutes of submitting the application we were granted electronic visas and had the green light to travel to Australia. Feeling pretty pleased with our mornings work we decided to take in the New Zealand Rugby museum before heading further south. The rugby museum was a giant dusty moth ball of rugby memorabilia housing a few interesting artifacts and in my opinion a lot of uninteresting rugby artifacts however what trip to New Zealand would be complete without taking in such a relic! After the museum it was back in the van our destination being the little seaside town called Paekakariki (try saying that three times in a row)!
