We entered the grey county and true to its name it was exactly that, grey, rainy and miserable. For the final 2 hours of our journey the rain had been getting progressively worse and the fog at times made it really difficult to see the road. Our main reason for coming to Greymouth as opposed to one of the other nearby towns was due to a recommendation. When we had been in Rotorua we had been desperate to do a white water rafting experience that incorporated some scary grade 5 rapids. The weather however if you remember had been terrible and the rain had closed the river. One of the tour operators there had mentioned a heli-rafting trip from Greymouth that was worth looking into as an alternative. We headed first to the information site to get some details on the heli-raft and any other rafting trips available. Much to our disappointment the company were looking for $450 each to helicopter you to the top of the river and then let you raft back down. There was just no way in a million years that we could spend that amount of money on one experience especially as we had already tried rafting in Canada. None of the other trips offered what we were looking for in our price range so for the first time since we got to NZ we had to walk away without booking anything. With it being such a miserable day we got our dinner supplies (and pasta) at the supermarket and headed straight to the campsite. We chose a campsite that offered a competitive internet package where we were able to get 24 hours of internet access to allow us to skype home to family, catch up on emails and load more of our adventures onto the blog. It rained all afternoon and all night flooding all of the grass around the campervan and when it was still torrential in the morning we decided to give up on Greymouth and head further south in search of an improvement.
