Leaving Byron Bay early we arrived in the town of Coffs Harbour by late morning. We had decided rather than stay in a campsite in the in Coffs itself we chose a quieter camp at Moonee Beach about 10 minutes from Coffs. After securing ourselves a spot for the night we decided to head into the town for a look around. Unfortunately the guide books had misled us slightly on what to expect from Coffs Harbour and after a short walk around we were less than impressed by what it had to offer! The situation wasn't helped by the fact that the weather had taken a turn for the worse leaving us with little choice but to head indoors to the main shopping centre. The highlight of the shopping centre was a giant sand sculpture taking up the entire entrance to the centre with santa, the elves and the boat powered by reindeer. I know I sound sarcastic but it really was an impressive sight. We entertained ourselves walking around the centre taking in all the last minute shoppers and their panic buying of Christmas tat and we couldn't help but feel sorry for the people who were going to be receiving some of the gifts being bought as they were really hideous. After the centre it was off to the supermarket and then back to camp. By the time we got back to the campsite the thunder storm had arrived and due to the location of the campsite we had a fantastic view of the storm and if there is one thing Australia can do it thunder and lightening and that evening there were plenty of both and we felt like we had front row seats it was fantastic! As is always the case the storm clears the way for another glorious day and given that there was nothing in Coffs harbour to tempt us back into town we decided to spent the day at Moonee Beach. It was without a doubt the quietest beach we had visited since arriving in Australia and so it was easy to find a quiet and remote spot miles from the screaming children and barking dogs in order to relax and top up our tans for Christmas!
