Ella, Gina and Sallys Travelling Diary!!
We arrived in Hhanoi after our very small aeroplane journey. HAnoi was crazy which we realised as soon as we got into a taxi outside the airport. we nearly killed about 50 people on the way to our hotel...there are no rules to the road and everybody is very at one with using their horns. All the cars play tunes as they reverse, we've had happy birthday, and many more annoyances.
We got to our guesthouse which had been already sold to us in Laos, we loved it as it had a big TV (showing Jmaes Bond 24 hours per day!) and a fridge and a phone and a bath and a lot of space and a very handy little balcony...Things started to turn sour when we reailsed that the balcony door didn''t close, there were only two beds (they tired to charge us for an extra mattress) and the promises of free internet, free FRESH fruit, and free breafast were very very false. And yoiu know how uch we hate fals promises. PLUS the receptionist with the most atrociously long fingernails and plastic teeth (he was male) told us that fresh fruit was out of season, what a fib!
Our first full day in Vietnam was spent going to see the EMBALMED body (dead) of the previous presiendt of Vietnam, Mr Ho Chi Minh. He looked very peaceful and excited to see us as us and hundreds of other vietnamese went for a parade around his glass casket. Ella thought that Madame Taussaud had made him! It was a bit scary how we had to march around his body then acknowledge him with a nod of the head as the guard in lovely tight white suits and guns watches us closely.
We then (after a lot of confusion as to how to get away from dead ho chi minh) visted Hua Loa prison which housed vietnamese and american prisoners throughout the many wars...we didn't quite understand as the pictures illustrate (we will put them on later when we get to Bangkok).
In Hanoi, we made two trips to the hospital to at long last get Ellas foot sprted out. I bet you are all breathing a sigh of relief, yes....they amputated it. I'M just kidding youuuu! She got some anti biotics which she then puked up so we had to go back and get her some medicine. Some of you may not be aware that ella has a slight problem with swallowing tablets. After being laughed at by all the doctors and being called a 'Big child' we got her some yummy childrens medicine (although her dosage was half a bottle a day!) We all know ella is good at downing drinks. Her foot is now looking wonderous and soon she will be able to walk again...only joking soon she will be able to shower..gina and sally are wearing gas masks!
sally and ella (much to gina's dismay) fancied some seafood in Hanoi, famous for its fishy food. So we went to a restaurant, and whilst gina stuck to fried rice, sally and ella ordered a 'seafood steamboat'.....JAWGASM!!! we have been dreaming about it ever since.
We left Hanoi to go to Halong Bay which is a collection of over 3000 islands. WE took a 5 hour boat to Cat - Ba Island which is one of the islands, it was our first beach and we loved it. The boat was lovely we sunbathed on top and took in the beautiful scenery. When we arrived in Cat-Ba Island we stayed in a guest house and our room was on the seventh floor of the tallest building ever and it had.....no lift.....and we had.....big bags, but the view from the balcony was lovely. We met some australians who persuaded us to buy a bottle of Vodka, would we ever decline?? When in vietnam.....! A few hours later, we found ourselves in a night-club which played the most awful 90s techno you could ever imagine. A policeman was parading around the dance floor looking for people to hit with his stick, Gina being one of them. No Drinks on the dancefloor please! A few hours later, we found oursleves in a bar singing 'sweet home alabama' with guitars and keyboards and everything. We were the only ones in it....enough said. one of the aussie guys had an i-pod which could store and play films so we were content watching Forrest Gump in bed (drunk) that night.
We left Cat-Ba to go back to Hanoi to get a 23 hour train to nha trang, to kill time before we went to catch the train we sat in a bar for about 7 hours watching DVDs, eating dinner all for about a quid. On the train, we had little bunk beds which didn't allow us to straighten our backs, this time we were all too big for our mode of transport, not just sally! After sleeping for 20 hours we found the 'dining cart' where we sat with one of the train attendants who physically forced us (especially Gina) to drink snake whiskey (whiskey which has been stored in a bottle with dead snakes and other insects in the bottom. After Gina was handed a note by another train attendant which read ''I want make love you''(they don't hang around??!!) we left.
Nha Trang was one of our favourite places so far. We stayed in a lovely guest house and after so mcuh sleeping on the train we decided to go to the 'sailing clúb' which we had already heard people raving about beforehand. Ella got chatting to a nice blokle called brendan, who we now call brenda for fun. We bumped into him again hin ho chi Minh City crazzzy!!! Gina met a lovely guy called Dafffyyth (the only gay in the village) however he was not welsh and he didn't wear PVC hotpand and he wasn't gay...he was mexican. Sally, on the other hand met nobody instead she was a little worse for wear...enough said.
We decided to do our bit for the paedophilia industry in vietnam....WAIT thats paedophilia prevention!!! We helped out teaching at a small voluntary school for vietnamese street kids, the aim was to get them off the streets and in turn prevent paedophilia. It was lovely to meet them all they were really good at english (we did dictation!!) The rest of the days in Nha Trang were spent sunbathing and drinking more jam-jars of vodka red bull....enough said!! Remind us to tell you about our interesting doorbell in our guest house at a later date.
We got a 10 hour overnight bus from Nah Trang to HCMC, we won't go into detail but we didn't sleep however evryone else did....b******s.
We arrived in Ho chi Minh, a bit fed up of cities and wanting some more beaches, so we didn't hang around for long, enough to visit a desolate and concrete park and bump into Brenda over a few drinks with Hanh our lovely barman.
We left the next morning to Pnomh Penh in Cambodia which is where we are now. We will update about Cambodia soon, but there is one rat each under each of our beds so we are not planning to go home tonight...red bull here we come.
We hope you are all well Love you all lots. We love hearing from you so keep it coming guys.
