Day 144 - Queenstown, South Island - Wednesday 7th March 2012
After waking it seems that it was me that snored not Danny?! I pretty sure that they were winding me up but we had drunk quite a lot so maybe?!
After we all showered and cleaned up we headed into Queenstown for a walk around. This is the first time since we have been in NZ that we have seen a town that is busy and very modern (Christchurch doesn't count as we couldn't get into the centre). We stopped at the famous "Ferg Burger Bakery" for pies and a flat white (we came back for the Ferg Burgers…). After our pies we headed to X Base to book our bungy jump. Soph & I had looked at all the different bungy jumps you can do from Bunjy swings to ledge jumps. We eventually decided on the biggest one, the Nevis bungy, which is 134 metres high with an 8.5 second free fall - all done over a river from a suspended pod between two mountains… EASY!! Once booked and $520 lighter in the pocket we headed for the gondola. This takes you from the base of Queenstown to the top of an overlooking mountain. After about a 15 minute ride (which is massively steep!) we got to the top, the views we unreal - all over the town and surrounding mountains and bays. At the top they had a luge, which is basically a go-cart track that winds down to the bottom. With our tickets we got 5 free rides, one word… AWESOME!! You get a little plastic go-cart (built for speed not comfort) where you push forward for go and pull back to stop. We all loved it but as we all got better we all got more competitive. After 4 goes, here came the final - and all I'll say it that Danny & Nikki conspired to get me out the race early by running me off the track!! I ended up 4th!!! Ok 4th was last… Soph ended up winning and was very gracious with it… not… she mocked me for the rest of the day. In fact to make it worse, Nikki was 2nd so poor old me and Danny were 3rd and last! We will get our revenge!! When we finished we watched a few people to the ledge bunjy swing as its opposite the luge, looks pretty scary, however this is 100 metres lower than ours that's booked for tomorrow! That night we headed for the Ice bar for drinks which was fun but freezing - think we lasted about 30 mins. Then on to Ferg Burger; these burgers are amazing, me and Danny had the "Mr Big Stuff" this was 2 burgers, cheese, bacon, and salad. Soph and Nikki had "The southern" which was burger, avocado, salad. The sizes of these things are amazing - a real gut buster! We all stuffed our faces and headed back to D&N for a meat sleep!!!
