Well, it's Monday 3rd November and our last morning waking up on the beautiful Perhentian Islands! We were on the first boat back to the mainland just in case any storms were headed our way, as nice as it would be to be stranded on these idyllic islands that would scupper the rest of our plans slightly! So we were up bright and early and went and placed our breakfast order. Our Russian friend baby Oleg came and joined us for breakfast as he was on the same boat as us, and the same connecting flight from Kota Bharu to Kuala Lumpur…'travelling friend'! Haha! 07:50 came and STILL no sign of our pancake breakfast, so Sam went to try and chase it up and ask if there was any chance we could have it 'to go' as our boat would be at the jetty in 10 minutes. 07:55 and 'breakfast to go' finally arrived so we quickly dashed to the jetty, hopped on our boat and got the hell outta there…what an amazing few days! Back on mainland Kuala Besut we shared a taxi with baby Oleg to the airport, sat and chatted while we were waiting and had a very Asian KFC for lunch. Landed in Kuala Lumpur, we parted ways with Oleg and wished him good travels then made our way to our crib in Kuala Lumpur for the night. This time we stayed near the airport; we had our fill of Kuala Lumpur's manic-ness last time we were here. So we went in search of some food close by, not far from where we were staying we came across another converted garage style café selling local Malaysian food. We walked in and Lou's face was a picture…she did not look impressed…mainly because there was a small buffet style counter with fly's EVERYWHERE and the head chef was a small Malaysian lady who looked like Jafar off Disney's Aladdin with a total of three teeth all pointing in different directions! But by this time we couldn't say no as we'd been surrounded by what felt like a plague of locusts AKA locals trying to sell us their food. Reluctantly we ordered from them and ate the food which actually turned out to be not that bad, and sampled our first ever can of icecream soda yummy! We headed back and spent the rest of the evening using the WiFi to catch up with folk back home, update the blog and crack on with some degree work (Sam) before snoozy time!
Tuesday 4th November; Thailand here we come! Today we flew from Kuala Lumpur to Surat Thani, Thailand's gateway to the Gulf Coat Islands; the ones we intend on visiting are Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and the Ang Thong National Park…watch this space!
