So, we made it on the 8 hour overnight train from Beijing to Datong without needing to use the loo!!!!! phew!

There isn't too muct to Datong, it's a massive coal mining area and you can smell the coal as soon as you step off the train - it's a really hard working city and it was great not to be in a really touristy area.

We had a nice sort of chinese meat fondue and then went to see thousands of Buddhas which were over 2000 yars old and all carved by hand from stone - the biggest one was over 17 metres tall and was awesome - the whole site itself was declared a world heritage site a few years ago.

Travelling back to Datong from the Buddhas by public bus was an experience we won't forget! There were so many people crammed onto the bus that no one could move and money was being passed down the bus to the conductor via all of us to pay! It was hilarious!!!

One night was enough and then private bus to Pingyao an ancient walled city.
