(on a shoestrig = on low budget or with no money)
so we have made it to Southeast Asia. Can you believe it?! The trip was quite eventful and it was close that we got an extended vacation in Cairns: appearenty you are not allowed to enter Singapore without a ticket out of the country. And we only had a ticket out of Thailand in December. b*****! With 30min left until the check-in for the flight closed we raced along the airport to find internet and just book something. Ended up with two tickets to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by bus and just made our flight. Sucess!
Arriving in Singapore felt like entering a HOT finnish sauna: +30++++C at 11 at night and air humidity something 95% (walking= swimming). Monika fell in love at once and has been loving every step of Asia so far. Anton, being a true viking as he is, is adapting a big harder to the extreme heat conditions, and needs a constant supply of cold beer not to get him longing for -30C and 2m of snow.
The city/country of Singapore is really cool. In 40sq km that the place takes there are ALL the different nationalities and religions you can think of, living side by side. The colours, the smells, the sights are just breathtaking and, since it is so close to the Equator, there are no seasons-just constant +30 all year long. Monika could definately live here!
With the little time we have here (due to the stupid bus ticket we were forced to buy) we did our bets to see most of it. The first day was 13 hours on foot, constantly stopping for cheap food; the second day, since our bus left at 7.45 in the morning we decided to not sleep at all and see the sity by day and night all at once. That left us with something 20hours on the streets that never sleep, amazing and fun local people and loads of impressions that will not fade for long. And now off to Malaysia we go, to get some sleep and continue our Asia part of the trip on a shoestring.
Miss you all
kisses and hugs, from the country that smells like chinese noodles!
