We arrived in Weipa on Friday arfternoon to a very warm welcome from Gav, Peta, Mia and Dion and Grandma Sue. Good freinds from a former life in Tom Price. The next day onto Cooktown where we picked from some fairly average caravan /camping sites and then had a lovely bbq on the waterfront near the pier. Kids played soccer with the local indigenous children. An early start in the boat and we headed out to some reef about 5 km offshore for some fishing after advice from the local tackle shop. It all began with a $16 barge ride across the Daintree River for our ute and boat and here we were ready for anything all loaded up with swags food and smiles. Pulling up in a side street and trying to be inconspicuous in the blue bus is very difficult. We just wanted to stay here on the foreshore without being in a caravan park.
