Way back on our Halong Bay trip in Vietnam, we met and hung out with a couple from London on a similar journey to us, and decided if our schedules worked, we would meet up again in our travels. Timing allowed us 5 nights together in Koh Rong, and so we were again blessed with some brief company!
Although we had recently spent several days in the very calm waters of the Gulf of Thailand visiting nearby Koh Mak and Koh Kut, Koh Rong decided to show us the other extremely windy and wavy side to this part of the ocean. (Sea bands are your friend.) For the first couple of days, local boats to other calmer parts of the island were not running due to the sea conditions, so we remained somewhat trapped at our beach. We passed the time playing with the local dogs, comparing travel ridiculousness and imitating each others' accents and phrases. (Brits really do have the best vocabulary.) Once the winds died down, Troy managed to fit in another scuba trip, where he saw a seahorse and a small bamboo shark! (Unfortunately, no photos to prove this - we will have to take his word for it.) On our last full day the four of us took a boat trip to snorkel (visibility not so good), visited Long Beach, and capped off the day with a glowing sunset on our sail back to our resort. The day was worth the wait!
After a delayed boat ride and being dropped off at the wrong pier, we narrowly managed to run to the station in time to catch our bus back to Phnom Penh for one last night before going to....India! Cue extreme excitement and nervousness. Keep you posted!
