Hi all!
This is my first entry ever! Currently, I am spending most of my time learning spanish to prepare for my trip. Honestly, I am a bit frazzled and worried about going. I dont know spanish very well, and I dont know much about Peru. And I am gone for two years!!
Some Updates:
- I applied for the Peace corps in November, 2008, and have been invited to Peru for water and sanitation engineering
- Peace corps is a 2 year and 3 month commitment
- I can leave for 2 months out of the 2 years that I am gone
- I cannot have visitors the first 6 months and the last 3 months of my service
- This is volunteer work! I do get paid for living expenses, and a little spending money. The same standard of living that my host country typically has
- I am going to live with a family the entire time I serve with the Peace Corps
Lastly, from March to August, I have been thru-hiking the Appalachan Trail. If you would like to find out more about my hike, go to www.trailjournals.com and type my name in the search bar.
As I close to my departure date, I keep thinking that I am forgetting something. I am packed, and ready to go. I have decided to bring my laptop and travelling guitar. I figured that the laptop isnt worth that much, since its 5 years old, and the travelling guitar is going to come in handy when I am lonely and missing home.
I have spent approximately 40 hours worth of Rosetta Stone learning program for spanish. The biggest concern I have right now with regards to leaving is that my spanish isnt that great. But I am sure that it will vastly improve once I am there and emerged!
Thanks for the support!
Happy Travels,
Teigan
