Hi Everyone,
We will start this as we start them all yes we are miles behind on our trip so here is the start of a quick update so far.
From Adelaide we flew to Alice Springs were we embarked on a 3 day trip to THE ROCK. It was fab the best trip we have done so far our guide Rory was fantastic. After driving nearly all day (everything in oz is just so far away), we eventually arrived at Kings Canyon. We did a 3 hour hike through the canyon which had the most amazing views of the surrounding area and itself was a great hike.
From there we made our way to our camp for the night, which was an evening of firsts, tried camel for the first time, which was actaully quite nice maybe because it was mince in chilli sauce we dont know and it was our first time sleeping under the stars in a swag. It was such an experience as the sky was so clear and luckily we didnt spot any of Oz's creeepy crawlies lurking about esp when we had to go of into the wilderness and dig a hole so we could pee.
The next morning we headed to the Olgas, and did yet another 8 km hike through them which again had fab views,(you will all be seriously bored of looking through these photos of basically roocks and views). From there we made our way to THE ROCK which is unbelievable it is so massive. Did a quick guided walk around some of the bottom learning about the Aboringines (seriously dont know how they survive out here is so barren and hot). Then we made our way to the viewing point for sunset luckily we arrived pretty early to get a good spot as homnestly it is mayhem so many tourist buses and coaches not really what you would want not so peaceful, but the changing colours on the rock as the sun was setting looked really cool and thats all that matters. Before heading to camp again, different place this time had to go hunting for our firewood then got a ride back on the trailer which was fun. Not so many stars to night in fact it even started to rain slightly so we spent an hour putting tarpaulin up only for it never to continue so it was under the stars again.
Had a very early start the next day for sunrise, this time we didnt go the tourist trap but headed back to the sunset spot to see the sunrise from a different perspective. It was much better we were the only people there and the sunrise was brill. We were even able to play cricket once the sun had risen for a while, that was until someone got hit on the nose, OOps!!! . We decided not to climb Uluru so did the base walk instead where you really get an idea of how massive it is took over 2 hours just to walk around it, its about 10km (6miles).
On our way back into Alice Springs we played games to win jugs of beer for that evening. Such fun trying to pass an orange under chins on a moving vehicle also passing a piece of card by blowing and sucking, unsurprisingly we didnt win any beer. Gutting but great fun. Back at the hostel we all met up for dinner and what was supposed to be a few drinks but i dont think going to bed at 5 (when the trip going that day were leaving) counts as a few. Had a brilliant night though.
Had 3 days to kill in Alice Springs, luckily the first was spent recovering in bed as there isnt much to do in ALice, infact you could say its a bit of a s***hole. The only could thing we did was go to a Joey sanctuary, were we could to hold baby kangaroos, they were so cute. Really interesting as well, the guy there acts as there mum, which sometimes seemed a bit close for comfort like having to tickly there gentials so they would pee. Where hoping we could just relax by the pool but unfortunately the weather wasnt nice enough, all Lou could think was it had better be hot in Darwin.
ANyway think thats about it
Take care
Tatey and Lou xxx
