Hi Everyone,
Finally managed to leave Alice Springs and head up to Darwin. We did a 3 day tour through the outback to reach Darwin, it was a lot of driving everywhere is just so far. Stopped a the Devils Marbles and this really cool pub called Daly Waters, its in the middle of nowhere and has loads of slogans, pictures, flags etc up everywhere. By the 2nd day the sun had appeared and it was absolutley boiling so were glad of all the swimming stops, the thermal baths in the middle of the trees was fab. The last day was the best when we reached Katherine Gorge, really wanted to do canoeing up the gorge but they hadnt checked for saltwater crocs yet so we were quite happy to do the walk through the gorge and a boat cruise, much safer. It was amazing the scenery was really beautiful. Again did some more swimming at Edith Falls were apparently its safe as there are only freshwater crocs there!!! If we had come across any though dont think would have ever swam so fast to get out of the water even if safe.
Finally reached Darwin, arrived at about 5 in evening and the heat and humidity just hit you as we could out of the bus Lou was very happy. That evening we meant up with the rest of our group for dinner and a few drinks, eventually making it to bed at about 3, Matt took part in a dideridoo competition but it was just embarrasing he was so bad, needless to say he didnt win.Darwin itself was a very cool city, just felt like you were on holiday boiling hot sun and tons and tons of pubs lining the streets. We spent the majority of our time just lying by the pool in the hostel soaking up the sun, it was around 34 degrees everyday. Did go to the sunset markets by the beach which was great loads of craft stalls and so many food stalls, we ended up having a roast dinner on the beach watching the sun set, Bliss!!
We did a 3 day trip through Kakadu and Litchfield NP which was probably one of the best things we have done so far. First day we did a boat trip and saw tons of wildlife inc finally crocs (only freshwater ones though). From there we headed to Ubirr lookout which had a 360 degree view of Kakadu was beautiful, the view was unbelievable. That night at camp our guide took us on a night walk which was a bit scary esp when we could see the eyes shining of all these saltwater crocs only 20 m away. Really good though saw tons of spiders and he caught a file snake for us all to see.
The next day was spent swimming in waterfalls and rockpools. We went to some waterfalls called Gunlom. It was the best bit of the trip we climbed to the top of the waterfall and spent the morning swimming in the rockholes at the top there had just the most amazing views. It was a great day all the falls etc were fab.
On the third day we said bye to Kakadu and headed to Litchfield NP which was basically the same spent our time swimming in water falls and rockholes and looking out for all of Australias weird and wonderful creepy crawlies.
Had another day in Darwin relaxing by the pool before catching our flight to Broome over in WA.
Anyway take care
Tatey and Lou xxx
