The next week was another big festival in Hessen, I think the biggest we have, but this one isn´t originally a music festival. The Hessentag is more like a fair where companies and public institutions present themselves. It takes place in a different town every year. There is also a huge play-park for children, a handicraft market and there are a lot of concerts and they always invite a number international top acts (everyone plays on a different evening and needs his own ticket, so this is not like a music festival where you see different acts with one ticket). I had fancied the Elton John concert for a while, but in the end it was a last minute decision when I got a bargain ticket from ebay. I really like to listen to Elton´s music from a CD, but he had disappointed me two times as a live act. But with this bargain I really should give him another chance and after all, can´t you explain every concert trip with the trip itself? Of course I liked to see the Hessentag anyhow and I´d like to stroll around the exhibitions and the handicraft market. And to take the opportunity to visit Wetzlar, a city which is not too far from us, but I have never visited before. So I started early to have enough time before the concert. And then I had bad luck with a really huge traffic jam on the motorway. It took me more than 3 hours to get to Wetzlar (which should need only 1 hour without traffic jam) and I even did not manage to get in time to the meeting point with the ticket seller. The poor guy had to wait for me for half an hour. However, Elton´s show was better than expected, because he sang all of his greatest hits and his voice was in good shape (though he was ill and had to cancel concerts the week before). For what I knew before I didn´t expect any interaction with the audience, so he didn´t disappoint me with just sitting on the piano and singing. I really enjoyed the concert and to hear so many wonderful songs and again I had a lot of luck with the weather, it was dry and even sunny for a short time, though rain was forecasted. By the way, the open air show took place at a channel pipe storage, a very unusual place. The funny part was that I met the neighbour of my parents-in-law, whom I had also met at Billy Joel in Frankfurt a couple of years ago, the world is small.
