Hello Malaysia and the first impressions are that this is a lot more Westernised then Thailand!
First stop Penang or should I say Malaysian immigration. Unfortunately, and as we found out, Columbian citzens are not allowed to enter the country via land borders :( So we had to say goodbye to a devastated Filippe and Maria, who had to stay in Thailand. Hope to meet up with you guys later!
After the delay at the border, we arrived at the hotel in George town at about 10 after travelling for most of the day. The hotel looked nice from the outside but it was a bit run down on the inside. The rooms were ok but the hotel seemed a ittle dirty and I actually got a bit of a rash from the bed...nice! To add to my woes the bank decided to block my card!!
Anyway, after all the shananigans I actually managed to have a good explore. First on the agenda was a trip up Penang Hill. Where we had a look over George Town and had a walk around. Ended up going to an aviary where the owner also had a little snake (not an innuendo!) which he let us hold. After that we looked at a beautiful buddhist temple with really nice views over George town. After descending the hill we had a walk around little Indian and China town. In the evening I went out for some drinks with the Irish while everyone else got an early night.
It seems like a nice enough place here but there is not really much of any note. I think its only claim to fame is that it is the first trading post of the British in Malaysia. My advice would be that there are probably a lot more interesting places to go if you are planning a trip to Malaysia.
