Stephen's Travels!
Well... LA... what can i say... Go if you have to...Leave as soon as you can. As you can gather I did not like the place much. Dangerous and dodgy spring to mind.
I met with Jen at LA airport after her flight from England.. It was great to see her and we headed for our hotel/hostel on Melrose Av, Hollywood. It was in a nice location but nowhere in LA is trouble free... On our way we saw a blocked off street with 4 cop cars and 2 guys with guns to there backs...Welcome to Hollywood baby! then the next day we were walking down Melrose to our hotel and noticed a hellicopter circling around us, at first we thought it was a tourist one but after it had circled about 5 times i knew it was a police hellicopter. Sure enough it was and then the car came and 2 armed police jumped out and were braced to go for the robbers that were holding up the shop about 20ft from where we were. I warned Jen thatwe might have to dive to the ground...But all calmed and we were ok.
LA is so fake and its all makebelieve that its glitz and glam. We did a city tour and saw the Hollywood sign which was cool and we also headed to Beverly Hills and saw the Stars homes. Our driver was soooooooo annoying I can't even start to explain. He took us to South Central West Side which is basically gang land, your a Blue or a Red and we were neither and thye only white people. The driver thought he was mates with the homies and bought a bag of weed from them but you could tell that they also thought he was a tosser. our tour concluded with seeing Downtown LA. Theis was Horrible. We went down a long street full of Crack and Heroin addicts, all of whom where off there faces. Lucky for us we were in the minibus. We also visited 6 flags theme park which was a great day... 17 big rollercoasters and I actually didn't have time to ride them all...Gutted, It was so hot (115dg).
Next was San Diego. We cought the Greyhound bus from La downtown...yes I know..thats where it goes from though. It didn't help that it was late at night either.
San Diego was cool, a refreshing break from La. It still felt a bit dodgy but was 50 times better. We chilled out really and apart from a visit to the SanDiego Zoo we didn't do a lot. The Zoo was ace and i saw panda bears for the first time also had an Abbercrombie & fitch shop which I had to buy some well needed undies and some not so needed aftershave...Its been so long since i have shopped.
We have booked to go to Mexico for a few days as we are so close it would be a crime not to. Looking forward to that and then Vagas...Lets see what that has in store.
America is a different kind of travelling after the other countries, Its expensive, Fake and way to Western but its getting better the more I see of it.
