We had a stressful evening before our flight. we spent the evening at Mark and Chelseas before we headed back to the apartment to try and get an hour's sleep. I couldn't sleep a wink as I was stressed and worried!! iris came back to the apartment at 2 am (she works at a club downstairs) so we could swap keys and bond money! This was no hassle at all even though I was panicking.
We headed on down for our walk to the bus station, we got stopped a few times from the drunken people out in town tonight. We arrived at the bus stop with plenty of time and got to the airport so early that it was a ghost town! We did however get upgraded to bigger seats as we were the first in the queue, the only benefit of getting in so early!
We tried to get some sleep along the way, but not much. it was a short flight thankfully. I enjoyed a beautiful sunrise, over the hills on our approach to the airport. We landed in Adelaide on time and we caught a taxi to the hostel as I couldn't be bothered spending time to work out if there was a cheaper way!
We headed out for a walk after we had some breakfast and dropped our bags off at reception. We caught the tram to the seaside part of Adelaide, Glenelg. It was gorgeous out, a little chilly but the sun was shining. I had my second cup of coffee already! Glenelg is the oldest European settlement on mainland South Australia, established in 1836. We had a little walk around the town and looked at the old trams on display. The tram line that is still here is the only tram line still in use in Adelaide, until January 2006 the 1929 vintage H-class trams were in use, but these have all been replaced with more modern trams.
We headed back to the city as we were allowed to check in, we had a shower to wake us up, I was struggling a little with the lack of sleep! We headed back out for some lunch and we came across China town so we found a cheap place to grab some Chinese! We decided to walk through the town centre towards Ruddle Mall, where the main strip of clubs and shops are based, and continued our long walk to Adelaide goal.
I didn't realise how long the walk actually was! We finally arrived at the gaol, which was the first permanent gaol on South Australia and operated from 1841 to 1988. The gaol is one of the two oldest buildings still standing in South Australia, the other being the Government House. I got a bit of a fright when I walked into the doctors suite and a mannequin was there! I did scream a fair bit! After that I swear to God I was screaming at my own shadow! We walked around the inside of the outer walls and there was several markings on the wall to indicate where someone had been buried, however there were several that hadn't been marked so no one knows where they are buried.
We decided to take the tram back to the city and we walked down North Terrace AKA Museum St. As down this street is where 90% of all the museum's, art gallery's and government buildings are built!
We headed back to the hostel via subway for dinner as we both were too tired to cook, I managed to stay awake till 8 pm before I went to bed!

We were up and ready early as we wanted to go to Mount Lofty summit as the weather was going to get cloudy. We caught the bus all the way to the top which offered some amazing views over Adelaide. Adelaide city is a square surrounded by a green belt of parks and forests. It was extremely chilly today and we were wrapped up in jumpers, hats and scarfs!
We didn't realise that there were no more buses till 2 pm, Damn. So we decided to warm ourselves up with a hot drink (and a muffin for Stu) while we worked out how to get back down the mountain! Luckily there was an information centre and she told us how to get down to the bus stop. We somehow didn't find this route so instead we followed the round down the steep hill. So glad I walk down rather than up! We managed to reach the bus stop before the next bus was due, otherwise that would of been another hours wait!
We accidentally got off one stop early (my fault) and then I managed to walk the wrong way too, but we finally made it to the Haigh's chocolate factory. It was very small but we did see some workers making chocolates. It was founded in 1915 by Alfred E. Haighs, the original shop is in Ruddle Mall and is still open and the decor remains the same as when it first opened. They only have stores in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne. We also found the discounted chocolates and brought a small selection of chocolates!! They were yummy too!
We brought some lunch at the supermarket and headed to Victoria Square to enjoy the world passing by. The city council had also set up a fair few swing balls on the green in the middle of the square, so we had a go for 10 mins until Stu broke it!
We headed back towards North Terrace and went to the SA museum. It was a really good museum and we spent the last few hours walking around looking at the exhibitions. They had the bones of a wombat that was around millions of years ago, it was the size of a hippo! They had a huge gallery of minerals and meteorites gallery, as well as local Aboriginal culture with little totem men!
We headed to woolies to get some things for dinner and some snack for our tour which starts tomorrow. We got our bags packed up so they were ready to go as we are being picked up at 6 am tomorrow morning.
