We had easy and uneventful run from Wacca Wache to Barefoot Landing Marina. It was sunny but a lot cooler than we have been use to with a high of only 67. We did have to swing bridges that we had to have opened for us, but both of them were "On Demand", meaning that as we approach them, we call them on the radio and they open. Most of the previous bridges we have had to wait for a set schedule for them to open. Swing bridges rotate on a central pivot to open, and the road bed remains parallel to the riverbed as it opens. We also found the bridge tenders in South Carolina to be the nicest bridge tenders so far. By far the coolest thing we saw on this run, was an alligator swimming across the river in front of us.
Once we settled in Nick (Ginger Gale) came and picked us up. Nick, Ginger, & Teresa and some friends, rented a condo on the beach for a week, and the timing was perfect. We spent the day with them just hanging out playing LCR and Mexican Train Domino's. Of course Nick had to make a few martinis for old time sake! It was great to see them again.
One of the reasons we picked Barefoot Landing, was Kim, a former co-worker had recommended it. After she retired her and her husband moved to North Myrtle Beach. They have been vacationing down here for years, and decided this was where they wanted to retire to. After Mark & Karen (Kay Dee) got to the marina, Kim came over and we all went out for the day. We started the afternoon by going to the VFW for lunch. It is one of Kim's favorite's stops. After lunch Kim to us grocery shopping, mainly to pick up some of the heavier stuff that is hard to get on bikes. Our next stop was happy hour at Filet's, another one of Kim's favorites. Nick, Ginger & Teresa joined us for happy hour.
While we did not see as much of the area as we would have liked to, what we saw we did like. Both Angel & I would like to come back and see more of it.
