This trip Lake Michigan was perfect, It is amazing how quickly the lake changes. One day it is unbearable the next day it is flat. It really depends on the direction of the wind. Today's winds were out of the west, and since we are traveling down the west side, and traveling close to the shore, it gave us a great ride.
Northpoint Marina is the first marina coming south in Illinois, It is also the largest marina on the Illinois' shoreline. The marina is a great facility, but there is nothing around it. It is approximately two miles into town, and there is not much there either. They do have a couple of restaurants and a brew pub at the marina.
Our original plan was to spend two or three nights at North Point before going to Chicago (40 mile run). It is a fairly inexpensive marina, and close enough that we can easily get to Chicago.
Looking at the forecast Monday was going to be the only travel day that would get us to Chicago before our flight back to New Jersey on Thursday. Rather than trying to get to the airport from Winthrop, we decided to head to Chicago early.
Our excitement at Winthrop consisted of riding our bikes to West Marine (not exciting for Angel) and then Dollar General. There was also live music at the Brew Pub located at the marina.
Monday morning as soon as we confirmed that we could get a slip at DuSable Marina, we headed to Chicago.
Our next post will not be until the middle of next week. Thursday we are going to fly back to New Jersey to celebrate Rebecca and Zach's wedding.
