We started our stay in Pensacola at Pensacola Yacht Club (PYC). PYC is located off of Pensacola Bay at the mouth of Bayou Chico. The grounds and clubhouse are beautiful. We were scheduled to stay at PYC for four days, but when the winds picked up, we were bouncing around pretty bad. Mark & Karen (Kay Dee) found a marina about a mile farther up the bayou. As much as we liked the yacht club we needed to be able to sleep at night.
The car from Turo worked out great. Telly (who owned the car) had the car at PYC right on time. The car was in good shape, and ran great. We will definitely use Turo again.
I took advantage of having a car, and went to a barber shop for the first time since the start of covid. It was strange not cutting my own hair but nice to have a professional haircut. I picked a random barber shop, and who do I run into, but the General Manager of PYC.
We tried to visit the Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum, located at Naval Air Station, Pensacola. Unfortunately military bases are still closed to the public because of Covid. It is impossible to keep track of what you can and can not do, what is opened, what is closed and where you need to wear a mask. Even within the federal government there does not seem to be a consistent approach.
One of my Thanksgiving traditions that I will miss this year is making pumpkin pies and delivering them to friends. I did make two pies, one for us and one for Kay Dee. Since I do not have an oven on the boat I baked them in our air fryer.
Even though we did not stay at PYC, they did allow us to attend their "Members Only" Thanksgiving Day Dinner. It was a buffet dinner and it was delicious. The only disappointment was they did not have pumpkin pie for dessert. It's a good thing I baked some!
After dinner we went back to Pensacola Beach and walked along the shore.
Tomorrow we are heading to Fort Walton Beach.
