We had a slow lazy start to today's travel. We were heading to Shark River in the Everglades to anchor for the night. The channel out of Everglade City can get very shallow and low tide was at 7:30am. We decided it would be better to wait until for the tide to rise before we left. Since we were heading to an anchorage with Dan & Cheri (Cheri Baby II), there was no reason to get there early.
The ride across the Gulf was spectacular, crystal blue skies, and the water was flat. It was much nicer than our ride into Everglade City. To make the day even better as we approached the anchorage at Shark River we were greeted by at least six dolphins. There were three of them running alongside of Nothing To Plunder. When they got done playing with us, then went to greet Cheri Baby II. You can see a video of them, on our video page.
When we arrived at the anchorage there was one boat already settled in for the night, and a couple of more joined us as the night went on. Cheri Baby II set their anchor and we rafted off of them. Everywhere we looked was incredible, and as the sunset it only got better.
Dan cooked pork steaks for dinner, that were delicious. While we had never heard of them, they are very popular in St Louis. After dinner we called it a night, knowing that our plans were to leave at daybreak in the morning.
Our schedule has changed so many times in the last week, that it is hard to keep track of where we are heading. Our original plans were after leaving Shark River, we would go to Marathon for two nights (Sunday & Monday) before heading to Key West on Tuesday, February 15th. When we checked the forecast on Friday, there was a front coming in, and we would not be able to leave Marathon until next Saturday. Sunday was supposed to be a good travel day. We were able to change our reservation in Key West and go straight there on Sunday.
Next Stop Key West Florida for a month!!!! Good times ahead.
