El Boslon was a tiny town based around the fruit-growing industry. We stayed in a great backpackers out of town and had a good group of travellers as well. There were a few nights when the staff cooked and we had some big rowdy meals. We had a few nice hikes and the best chicken schnitzel in the world.
Then to Fitz Roy mountain range via Rio Gallegos - the blandest town in the world. Enough said.
El Chalten was the base for the national park and things got very cold all of a sudden. We hiked out to the Lago del Torres which was freezing cold but beautiful and by the time we hiked back it was snowing. Winter had come early, even the roses didn't get time to die off and they froze overnight.
Then to El Calafate, the base for seeing the Perito Mereno Glacier. That was a truly special thing. Because its constantly encroaching, parts are always breaking off and the sound of cracking ice falling into the water is amazing. Definitely a Top 10 destination.
Final stop on our Argentine tour - Iguazu Falls in the tropical north.
After the cold of the south, it was like arriving to Bali, complete with a waft of sewerage on the air. We basked in the balmy heat at our hostel and watched the butterflies and hummingbirds buzzing around us. We spent a full day at the Falls, taking a boat ride with 4 screaming girls from Paraguay and 20 jolly guys from Argentina, under one of the cascades and came out soaking wet and hysterical. Much bigger and better than Niagara Falls and listed as one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. As you can see by Gav's stunning photos.
