Hey hey lovely peeps!
So, we arrived in Nha Trang on Monday morning after another joyous journey on a sleeper bus - gotta love those things! Nha Trang is really pretty and has an absolutely gorgeous beach which is 6km long...made us very happy indeed! On our first day we went to a resort with hot mud baths and mineral springs - according to the poster in our hotel, "Soaking in Mineral Mud is a Very Interesting Experience!" See, I'm no expert, but I'm fairly sure 'interesting' is not the adjective I would have used to describe the day!! We started off with the mud bath - bit weird as they filled up a wooden bath tub with warm, watery mud...even weirder is that it came out of the tap! We had to soak in there for a while (although noone actually told us why, but we assumed it was meant to be good for us or something!) Then we had to wash it off (this may sound simple but it wasn't; as it turns out, the mud gets into a whole variety of places!) and we went to soak in a hot mineral water bath. What this basically means is they filled up a mini swimming pool type-thing with BOILING hot water and told us to get it, then proceeded to smirk at the silly Westerners who found the water too hot! Then it was time for schwimming (there's always time for schwimming here!) which concluded out time at the resort - a most relaxing time all round!
On the Tuesday, we went on a boat trip around the islands near Nha Trang...to put it politely, it wasn't a good trip! We were under the impression that we'd be visiting 4 islands, getting off at each one and having a little lookski around....in actual fact, what occurred was a cruise on a wooden boat lead by a frankly really quite annoying group of ageing Vietnamese men, whose idea of entertainment was to start a boyband and sing along to random 80's songs on prehistoric instruments! It wasn't pleasent for out ears, but we hear this entertainment is all the rage down in the south of Vietnam! We only managed to get off the lovely wooden boat to see one of the four islands (it appears the 'entertainment' seemed to think they were enough to compete with the beauty of the surroundings) but the one time we did get off, we had to pay for entry onto the island! The cheek of it! We decided to go out in the evening to wash the horror of the day off us via the use of alcohol; we went to the Sailing Club and had jam-jars on the beach front...a most enjoyable evening ensued from then on!
We spent the remainder of our time in Nha Trang chillaxing on the beach, which made the days pass most pleasently! We also learnt that the best way to deal with the people trying to sell you things is to pretend you're asleep - it works a treat! We left for Saigon on Thursday evening on our last sleeper bus - wooo! We have 3 days here before flying to the islands for 2 weeks of pure beaches...!
Hope all is good with you all. Miss you and we'll be home in 3 weeks - eek! xxxxxx
