With the Nascar rally on, I had to leave fairly early as I had to take the same road as the rally stadium is on - the 15 north. I stopped in St George for the tourist info office, but unfortunately its closed on Sundays. When filling up with petrol, this young lad asked if I was going to Cedar City and if so, could he & his girlfriend get a lift.
Just a short way after St George, I took the 9 east and passed through a town called Hurricane. This looks like a cute little town. Further on is Springdale which is the closest town to the Zion National Park. At the park entrance, I decided to hand in all my tickets & get a year national parks pass. This usually costs $80 and I only had to pay $35 to make up the difference (with the other parks I want to go to, this is the cheaper option).
I drove through the park on the scenic route, stopping off to look at the waterfalls. The weather was really cold & jackets were definitely needed. There also appear to be plently of trails to walk along - not that I'm much of a walker of course. At the waterfall, you have to walk behind it and you get a birdseye view of the ice attached to the plants & rocks at the base... that is really cold. At the end of the scenic route is another walk and at the end of the this is the narrows, which is where the canyon narrows.
I decided to stay in Springdale for the night and checked into the Bumbleberry Motel.
Dinner was at the Bit & Spur which was recommended in my guide book as only place to sell alcohol in town. I had a great chilli meal & a few glasses of vino. This was probably the best meal & service & have had since being in the USA.
