Bula!
We are now back in Nadi after our week down at Momi Beach - only 4 more nights before we head off to LA to start our 5 week road trip around the West Coast. We are staying in a place called Nadi Bay Resort, which is much nicer than the first place that we stayed in Nadi!
As Sian said in our last blog, I was doing a PADI Open Water Dive course. It took about 4 days, and along with the 4 open water dives for the course, I did 2 more once I was certified. The reefs out there were incredible. The water was a lovely 29 degrees celcius, and the water was so clear that on one day the visibility was up to 20m plus. During the 4 dives for my course, I saw turtles, eagle rays, a 4ft barracuda that followed me for about 30 minutes (a little menacing!), and a white tipped reef shark that swam along below me. On top of all that there were hundreds of other reef fish, including Nemo, who I kept finding all the time! On one of the trips out there Sian came along for the boat ride, and as I was getting in the water we all saw a sea snake. Thankfully it didn't come anywhere near us, as although they are supposed to be quite placid, their venom is so potent that, according to my diving instructor: 'you wouldn't even make it back to shore' (which was 10 minutes away...).
The best dives though were the 2 certified dives I did at the end. We went a little bit deeper and my dive buddy (who was one of the instructors) took me to a small cave and shone his torch in. Lying very still inside was a Nurse shark who was having a nap. It was amazing. Later we took a swim through a small tunnel and went off to see an anchor that had been abandoned from a long time ago.
During the rest of the time we were at Momi Beach we caught up on our sunbathing. The resort stayed fairly quiet, with only a handful of people staying there. On our last day we had another Kava session with the scuba guys and some of the other guests. You can ask for high tide or low tide, depending on how much you want in the cup. High tide is a bit of a push!
Anyway that is all for now, our next blog will be from the US!
