Well this might be my last blog entry for a while as Amy had finished her Masters and is free to have a turn. I still cant believe she managed to find time and do it during our travels but she did!! Now she can enjoy the traveling experience fully without having to think about her next paper.
We spent 3 days in Bangkok and the whole time we were being extremely careful to not eat anything bad as we were both excited for Japanese food. We arrived around 8pm and got straight on a bus to Khao San road where we were staying. Khao San road is probably the most famous backpacker area in the world they say. The first night we just walked the street which is covered with all sorts of stalls selling most everything and people walking around drinking and bars spilling out onto the road etc etc. It is just a great site!!! So we walked and just watched people and sized up a few things that we might want to buy.
Day 2 I just choose all the big sites in the city and took Amy there. Firstly we walked to the water taxi that goes up and down the main city river and passed most of the sites. We rode it to the last stop and then came back to the Golden lying down Budha. It is within a large temple and Thai Budhists seem to love gold and making all there temples with fancy gold trims and doors. From there we walked to the Palace where the King use to be, it is huge and well maintained. Then we continued to walk North to the National Museum to basically get out of the sun as it was so hot. It was interesting.
Then we headed back to the hotel and relaxed for a little bit. We then decided to hit one of the many markets in town, the Night market. It was packed with locals so we thought it may be a little cheaper than where we were staying but in the end it wasnt much different in price. I got a Liverpool football jersey so I was happy!! Then back to Khao San road to walk around. I forgot to mention that the first night we got a traditional Thai massage for about $5 for an hour.
Day 3 we walked to the Golden Mount and scaled the 400 stairs to the top. It gave a really nice view of the city. At the top is a temple which is of course made of gold and people come to worship and give offerings to the gods. We then walked back to Khao San road and did a little bit of shopping before we had to go get our bags from the hotel. Then to the internet cafe where Amy spent 3 hours finishing her Masters, I spent some time writing the HK blog and the rest of the time going out to the street and buying various things. Then to the airport around 8pm for our midnight flight to Japan. The overnight flight was no worries.
Sorry for the short and strangely worded blog but I am so tired as last night was a massive night and we didnt get much sleep. Sorry.
Good news is that while we have been in Japan I have been fighting with getting photos up and posted, unfortunately this website doesnt like me so I have to had to go else where and post them. Also it takes for ever to upload photos as nowadays one photo can be 4MB, so I managed to get 40 or so up for most of the destinations that we have been to, we actually have 1000 photos from India alone. Please enjoy them at this web address, if it does not work please let me know ASAp. Thanks Simon
