Hey guys.... I have finally got around to updating this thing. I have been here 5 days now and feels like 5 weeks, so much seems to have happened.
Well... what can I say. I will take you back to the beginning... I hope u are sitting comfy.
Got frisked in the airport on way out.. I asked her " how much do I owe you?", it was greeted with a couteous smile.. as u can imagine, I thought It was hilarious! The flight was a good one, had 3 seats to myself and good food. Although at one point was so tired, I thought, during the night, the wing lights were the head lights of another plane heading towards us.. I even threw my head in my hands 'to get away from the plane' (good logic I thought, thankfully didn't sleep walk on the plane, that would have been good start to my holiday)
Waiting in Dubai - I was looking around for solo travellers and could see, what can only be described as Jimmy saville and his partner in crime.. who's voice sounded like a voice synthesizer in this thick East London accent and were discussing their e'xcitement' of going to BK and Pattaya... hmmm!!!!
and then I got cornered by this 65 year old decided to tell me about his pacemaker, that his pulse rate was 157 and his blood pressure.... thankfully we were nto sitting by each other on the plane.
So I arrived in Bangkok =- complete and utter sensory overload. So many smells, sounds, tastes... chaos. Not huge fan of BK, it is too much and the Bangkok people I don't think are truly representative of Thai people, you become a little mistrusting of them. I shared a taxi to Khoa San Road with this Dutch couple. Having nothing booked I followed them to this guesthouse, looked at the room and decided against it. Call me fussy, but mould up the wall, a hose pipe for a shower and a trail of ants as room mates, was not what I wanted after travelling for 24 hours. So I carted my already annoying bag ( yes Sara, I know, u told me) which is frickin' twice the size and weight of me, to D+D gesthouse, got a comfy room, with no windows, and construction outside the door but soon became mine. At this point I had a mini melt down and thought "OMFG - what have I done", few pick me up texts later, I was good to go, that and a stern talking to in the mirror. Went out for my 1st meal, where I met Melissa. I started talking to her, which she said she was thank ful for as she had been there 5 days and not met anyone. She is 33, from Oregon USA, nice girl. So we went for a drink, and met 2 Estonian guys, Irish and English lad, 2 Americans and German girl, didn't get in til 4am, good start. The next day I pottered and slept and met up with some of the same guys as night before and again another late night (but a good night :) ).
Melissa has decided to travel with me for the next few weeks, and we left on Wed night on a 15 hour sleeper train to Chiang Mai. I love Chaing Mai - so much more chilled than BK, very accessible and easy to be in and around! I share a room with Melissa to make it a bit cheaper... which I was a bit doubtful, as she has this really bad cough and is REALLY loud... that coupled with cold could = snoring.. Coughing + snoring= being hit across the head by LeAnne, who has not slept or eaten in a while. Thankfully, for her really, she has been fine, I kind of like her, I don't want to lose her yet!
Yesterday I explored the city on my own and met this Scottish guy, in cafe and ended up doing the temples together. We then met up again last night for dinner, along with Melissa and 3 Amsterdam guys who joined us, who were lovely. I was talked into trying a long Island Ice Tea - big mistake, hungover today! It was a really fun day tho.
today - I did a Thai Cooking course with 10 other people. OMG it was fab - we made 7 dishes, soup, Phad Thai stir fry, salad, spring rolls, phanag curry and desert. After each course we made we all gathered around a table and sat on the floor to enjoy, then back to the kitchen for the next course. Lovely group and so much fun and GORGEOUS food. It was a good cure for the hangover!
So here I am typing away.. going to have some food now and then tomorrow I am off to the Elephant Nature park, then I think the day after I am going to do a 2 day Hill Tribe Trek in jungle. I am yet to get a massage and am dying for one, so may do that tomorrow too. I think I will stay in CM for another 3 days and then head to Pai for some water sports, need an adrenaline rush, of white water rafting. I had not planned on doing Laos but speaking to people, I think I will do max 2 weeks there and fly between Laos and Cambodia! Things aren't as cheap here as they used to be, altho CM is much cheaper then BK. I am only paying 5 pound for a nights Accom, not too bad I suppose :)
So there we are guys, a brief synopsis of my week so far, not too boring I hope ;) I will update again in a few days. Hope u are all ok. Lots of love x x x x x x Pics will follow. xx
