We made it to France through the channel tunnel. It was quite strange, but very efficient. 30 mins to Calais in a train carriage big enough for articulated lorries. Each carriage can take 3 or 4 cars, and has fire break doors. And we were chocked in place. We reached France at 4:30, and drove mainly on the toll roads to Cappy where we met Greg, Georgie, Patrick and Gemma on the Zambezi! Their trip has taken them from the English Channel , the Scarpe River to the Canal de la Somme. The boat is so impressive and we had a beautiful afternoon moored up. This area of France seems quite flat with large green fields, or rows of potatoes, very straight tall trees and little villages and hamlets dotted around.
For dinner we went to the local pub/restaurant. Fintan was brave enough to try the smoked eels and frogs legs. He was following Georgi's lead on the ordering! I'm not sure he even knew he ordered the frogs legs! We slept on the boat, got up and had coffee and pastries that Patrick and Gemma had selected from the local patisserie. Georgi ran through a list of medications we should pick up. Greg and Fintan looked over the car engine. And Gemma was desperate to play outside! We swapped scarves! I made out with a Zambian flag scarf, while Gem has a lovely pashima ($5 from a NY street stall). On the way to Dijon now, we need to get ourselves together - put these on the blog site, plan the next few days, go to the grocery store, the pharmacy (thanks Georgi!) But it's all coming together and we are on the way. I think it's kicking in now, all the excitement and now it's just us… no one else to visit! Wish us luck!
