Days 88 and 89
We woke up to rain and dark clouds in Brisbane. Our plan was to stop off at Bryron bay and Coffs harbour on the way to Port Macquarie where we'd be staying two nights. It was only a couple of hours to Byron bay but when we arrived the rain was hammering down. Although we could tell that the bay was a nice beach, no beach looks inviting in the rain and as it didn't look like stopping we continued on our road trip. Coffs Harbour was a similar situation, but by the time we made it to Port Macquarie the rain had stopped. We had a nice dinner, and Jamie tried Kangaroo steak. It was surprising to find that the guy working behind the bar was from Pelsall!
The next morning we woke to clear, blue skies and went for a morning walk along the coastline to Shelly beach via Kenny walk. Although after Jamie had spotted the waves and the many surfers, he was keen to get back to go for a swim. Our apartment was really nice, and we were able to borrow bodyboards to take to the beach. Unfortunately I am not very talented at bodyboarding even with Jamie's tuition. The waves got larger throughout the day, and in the end both bodyboards were broken in half by the waves force. Jamie had also nearly drowned twice, so we thought it best to leave while it was going well! The private road our appartment was on backed onto a Koala hospital, and so Helena was eager to go and see more koalas (especially as it was free). We got a tour around the hospital and it was nice to see some baby koalas.
