Well arrived in Paris Gare Du Nord on time and first job, adjust watches, now at least we won't miss the train out. Next job, find the hotel.
Well finding the hotel was easy enough only problem was we had neglected to change enough money to pay for the room. No problem just find a cash machine or a bureau de change. "bonjour, bureau de change sil vous plait?"
reply "non!"
On our own then, never mind must be a cash machine around somewhere. Found one at last. Card in, pin in, 100 euros please........computer says non!!! Aarrggghhh!
Hastily calling the bank from abroad 'not cheap' only to be told that we had already drawn our limit out for that day, DOH! Luckily we had another card to use so now we had the money we could finally check in. Got to reception room all booked and receptionist asks (put on French accent) "would you like to pay by card?" all that running about for nothing.
All settled in now and room not bad at all really, bit on the small side but beggars on a budget can't be choosers. There use of space was quite inspired and I think putting the whole bathroom into the airing cupboard was genius. We were on the 5th floor and luckily there was a lift, well I say lift and I suppose at the end of the day that's what it was. It was like a reverse tardis, looked bigger from the outside than it actually was. But it worked and it was clean and tidy in the whole hotel and the staff were friendly.
After dumping our stuff we took off via the Paris metro and headed for the Bastille for a bite to eat then a stroll over to the Norte Dame before more metro up to the Eiffel Tower to await the hourly twinkle. Not much time in France really but not the main destination so just a quick look round.
Finally got back to hotel around midnight and early start again tomorrow fir train to Milan, can't wait.
Till then night all and more to follow.
