There is not much to tell about the town of Uyuni itself. It is a transit town and as a result we spent the time there recovering from the desert crossing. The only notable thing was that we had an amazing pizza in a restaurant owned by a American who had married a Bolivian. Not something to really write home about though!!!
More memorable was the bus journey from Uyuni to Potosi. The desert crossing had provided spectacular scenary, but it was only a hint of what Bolivia has to offer. The seven hour ride included vast valleys, with towering brown mountains. Mud brick houses apperared every so often, although mainly in a state of dereliction. It all looked desolute until suddenly, around a corner, a green lush valley would appear, contrasting sharply with the wide canyons and their sheer mountain sides. It was stunning and a joy to see, but only the start of so much more to come.
