Hi All!!!! .. got a bit of catch up to do as I am falling a bit behind with my journal entry... :-)
Ok, last update was the bungy jumping, something like 5 days ago, on Monday. As my heart would not take that kind of activity on a daily basis.... i went on Tuesday `tramping` for what I thought an easy ride. The place was the Tongariro crossing just south of Taupo. As I am sure most of you know... New Zealand sits just between 2 tectonics plaques and is pretty much made of hundred of volcanos, some in sleep other active. Tongariro is one of the active ones. The trek (randonnee for the french speaker only) was 17 km long in a quite difficult touraine, starting at 900m and going up to 2100m with temperarture below 0 degrees (7 hours walk, starting at 7am in the morning just in case we get lost, so secours will still have day time ligth to find us). For those interested Tongario has been used for Mordor scenary in The Lord of the Ring and latest erupted in the 1920s. On some of the last photo you can see the red crater with the lava flow coming from the top to the bottom..The scenary and views are just mind blowing (photos have been posted and more are to come) and the trekking is probably one of the best hangover cure I ve ever had (obviously went partying the nigth before after my bungy jump). Plan for the following day was to move further north, to a place called Roturoa, where the Maori (NZ tribe) culture is the most presents.
Seb :-)
