After we'd checked into our comfortable cabin at the Hokitika Holiday Park, we drove to the golf course as the sky looked threatening.Thankfully there was also a good north- westerly wind that seemed to be keeping the rain clouds away. As anyone who plays Montrose Links, the Glen at North Berwick, or links courses up and down Scotland, the wind is often the thing you have to beat. Well, we didn't do too badly and the clubs performed well.Seriously though, it was good having our own stuff. We couldn't see much of the mountains and after a few flurries of light rain during the first 9, as we turned for home, the rain came on even with the wind increasing in force. We picked up on No 11 and took the long walk down several fairways to a welcome car.We are now taking advantage of long lies (part of our strategy to not always be on the go) and after a great brunch fry-up (Snarlers' black pudding was excellent), we heade into town for a stroll on the old quayside & beach. After a coffee, we returned to the golf course to be allowed back on to play the 2nd nine.A lovely sunny afternoon saw us complete a round which was extremely enjoyable. It was then back 'home' for some nice home cooked food - Bluff oysters followed by scallop risotto. Sunday was another deliberately lazy day - even allowing for the extra hour gained when the NZ clocks went back for Autumn - with lots of catching up with minor household tasks etc, not least designed to help us fit 2 sets of clubs in our boot.Thank goodness we bought a big car! Hokitika is a small town graced with 2 cinemas, both small and old fashioned. We therefore went to the one that was showing 'Into The Wild' a film directed by Sean Penn and based on a true story. It was an excellent film although it was marred when the man who was in charge of the box office/projection room/sweet selling and was also the usherette, called out "Who has left their car lights on? Car reg no ASE 353?"Of course it was ours and E had to go outside to the main street and turn them off.
