Easy drive to the hotel, once we got out of Montpellier with its roadworks and congestion. Found the hotel easily and the parking was thankfully just across the road, although because of the one way street we did have to drive around the block. The reception lady only spoke French but did manage to convey all the parking instructions and gave us our room key even though we were 3 hours early! Lovely lady. Up the first flight of stairs to our room! The hotel (and our room) is dated but very charming. Lots of bullfighting paraphernalia - posters, prints, statues etc. The lowest toilet I have ever seen. The reception lady gave us a map and we were happy to see we were only a 5 minute walk from the centre of town, including the arena. There is a big bullfighting festival happening tomorrow (La Feria) and you can see the town getting ready for it. Apparently there will be half a million visitors descending for the event, with some people having booked their accommodation a year ahead! There was also a carousel decorated with bull motifs and with "Nimes" painted on it. The kids missed out riding the one in Montpellier so we gave them extra rides here. Visited the arena/colosseum which was amazing. So much to see (and hear through the audio guides). It is an arena that still houses events so us well looked after. Has some sections and rooms filled with exhibits, eg. gladiator weapons. Lots and lots of little laneways filled with shops, restaurants, plazas and fountains. They sure love their crocodiles! Had a very yummy dinner in one of the plazas with the big crocodile fountain. A very good night sleep in a quiet, dark, air-conditioned room.
