Steph's Travels
Hey Guys,
Sorry it's been so long since i've written. Been pretty busy since we got to greece we haven't had time to get to the internet cafe. We only had a day and a half in athens to take advantage of everything there so we wanted to make sure we got in all the attractions and shopping of course:). I uploaded a bunch of new pics in the new album so check it out.
Egypt airport was nuts. Their baggage checkin counter was just as bad as their roads, no lines. We ended up cutting in front of some women and then they closed the line and she started yelling at us in arabic. oh well.
Finally in athens we took the bus to plaka area from the airpot for only 3 euros not bad. They bumped us to a different crap hotel and we paid 120 dollars for a hotel that was almost as bad as a hostel so we will probably ask for some kind of refund. The next day we finally got the hermes hotel which was much nicer.
We spent the afternoon in athens after checking into the hotel just strolling the small streets and almost getting run over my motorycyles and scooter bikes. Shopped a little and found our way around. Went to a greek orthodox church which was really nice artwork of the christian icons. They didn't let us take pictures though. Some went by and kissed the icons in the church. We also saw some greek orthodox priests walking around.
We sat at a local taverna on the streets outdoors and ordered a gyro or attempted too since it was open faced haha. but still very good and fresh. WE also had a greek salad that is mostly tomato's apparnetly so it's different than whgat we get in the states. The service is really good and everyone was nice. We had to ask for the bill at the end. Apparently it's rude for them to bring it to us while we are eating.
At night we made it to the Herodus Atticus Theatre where we saw the opera Carmen just in time so we sat in the nose bleed seats on the ruins on top but it was still cool. 38 euros but worth it.
The next day we slept in till 8am wow! soo much sleep haha. yeah right. Compared to the normal 4-5 hour nights of sleep we've been getting i feel refreshed.
We spent the next day roaming the plaka area of athens and going to all the ancient sites. We got entrance to all the sites for 6 euros with our student id card. Went to the acropolis which is under construction for major restoration apparnetly so you might notice a crane in the pictures haha. We also saw the temples of zeus which is now like 5 columns left. and several other sites. We noticed greece didn't take care of the sites as well as in egypt because there wasn't much to see besides a bunch of rocks and pillars all over the place.
In the afternoon we went shopping in the flea market section again and then at night we met up with our new tour group and went to a traditional greek restaurant with greek dancing.
