Another island trip, another bout of crappy weather - it seems that every time we try to hit the beach for a few days it starts pouring, but that's mainly because it's just raining quite a lot at the time in general, what with the rainy season being in full flow and all...
We'd been hoping to go to the Perhentian islands off the east coast of the Malaysian peninsula, since every single person we'd spoken to about Malaysia had recommended them so highly, but having spent so long in Borneo we only had a week for the whole of peninsular Malaysia, so had to skip that for Langkawi, a similar (and still very beautiful) island near Penang.
It was the typical idyllic tropical island, with beachside restaurants, bungalow accommodation, and island-hopping tours, which of course we did. I got attacked by a monkey (the novelty of seeing macaques everywhere wore off long ago), we swam in a freshwater lake in an island lagoon, fed some eagles and went snorkelling - all very lovely, but it does seem a bit pointless being on such a beautiful island when everything's grey and wet (so a bit like England really), so we were quite pleased to be Kuala Lumpur-bound afterwards...
