Executive Summary - Side Trip to Boston and Wellesley College 10th Reunion
-
Saw: The manifestation of The Big Dig, Charles River and Mass Ave, Cambridge and Central Square, South Station, 'the Vil' - 10 years later, Wellesley's new Lulu Chow Wang campus centre (hereafter known as The Wang), Madeleine Albright '59 speak, several dear friends (some long lost!)
-
Did: Got carded by a waitress when ordering alcohol (whaaaaa??), lost my mobile phone, walked around the lake, shopped at Ann Taylor, purchased World's Most Comfortable Wellesley hoodie, slept in a college dorm room, took a Center for Work & Service career changing seminar, went to an economics panel on the GFC (the economy's still screwed), asked renowned housing economist and longtime Wellesley professor Chip Case if he's heard of Rismark, unsuccessfully stalked Hillary Rodham Clinton '69, partied like it's 1999, crashed the class of 84's bash and danced to Sugarhill Gang's 'Rappers Delight', went swimming in the lake, chanted class cheers in the alumnae parade.
-
Ate/Drank: Mexican food and margaritas (after Dave the Hero delivered identification), toasted bagel with cream cheese, Sam Adams, and breakfast. Lots of Wellesley breakfast (waffles! Fried potatoes! Food as far as the eye can see!)...how we didn't come out of there 100 kgs overweight is beyond me.
-
Favourite part about Reunion: Seeing old friends, definitely, but also being reminded of the empowering feeling of being surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of impressive, successful, driven women...dancing to early 90s hip hop.
-
Least favourite part about Reunion: Not having enough time to see everyone, and missing people that weren't there
-
Life-altering revelation which has contributed to my search for universal truth: I really did waste a lot of time and opportunity 10-14 years ago
-
Current career thought: Still not sure but hopefully an appointment with the Centre for Work and Service in 2010 for some free alumnae career counselling will sort that out.
