We got picked up from the hotel reception by our transfer just after 7am we were absolutely shattered & didn’t know what to expect from the day! We moved onto a bigger coach there was a great mixture of ages & nationalities, our tour guide was called Manuela she was Italian from Venice but spoke great English & Spanish! We drove almost two hours to La Paz where we boarded the catamaran I hadn’t told Kurt this bit so it didn’t go down well as we were both a bit rough! The boat was the perfect size with outside lounging areas, great staff, an amazing cook & an open bar! We set sail on the sea of Cortez, we soon found out why it was called the aquarium of the world by Jacque Cousteau, We learnt about the history & preservation of the sea which is now a UNESCO heritage site, famous for its rich ecosystem, pearl farming & our tour of the sea lion colony. The Gulf of California is thought to be one of the most diverse seas on the planet the Baja California is the second-longest peninsula in the world. We had a huge buffet breakfast whilst heading out to sea, we passed hundreds of small islands! We transferred to a smaller boat to get closer to the rocks then jumped into the sea, I was a little apprehensive & unsure what to expect, the sea wasn’t too cold & I felt comfortable with my flippers & snorkel I swam with the go pro! We hadn’t been in the water long when a sea lion pup approached our group, it swam around everyone of us biting at our snorkle pipes & life jackets it was amazing, it nibbled me on the arm it only had small needle teeth & wanted to play! The adult sea lions swam below us & looked up at us as if to say who are you ha! The pup followed our group for almost 15 minutes it was incredible! There were so many tropical fish & the marine life was something we wouldn’t forget it was amazing! We swam for almost an hour past the sea lion colony through an archway which had lots of pelicans flying around, it was so good! We climbed back on board & moved back to the catamaran. We were served lunch which was amazing & the bar opened! I enjoyed a glass of fizz & a few cocktails whilst we sunbathed! We stopped at a beach area & everyone jumped or dived in to do some more snorkelling, the sea was a lovely aqua green. Some old Mexican ladies ordered tequilas whilst in the sea & before we knew it the whole boat was drinkin them, Manuela turned the music up & we danced all the way back to the shore! We got the coach back to Cabo & went up to the sky bar in the hotel & talked about how good the trip was we were so lucky as the other group that went at the same time didn’t get any interaction with the sea lions what a great day!
