The road trip from Adelaide to Melbourne has officially begun.......well after a short walk stu said to get our camper van which in fact turned into a 5k hike toward the airport and me getting 2 blisters!
We set off from Adelaide with Bruce the Brit Camper van and headed to Mount Lofty to see the amazing panoramic views of Adelaide and the coast of South Australia, then off to Cleland National Park where we got to see lots of Aussie animals in the sun shine J We then jumped back into Bruce and headed to the little German inspired town of Hahndorf for a schooner of German beer (even though we are in oz).
Instead of pitching up camp near Hahndorf we decided to carry on towards the coast to Encounter Bay.I think we can officially say that we drove through the Australian bush!We drove past the beautiful scenery and villages of Mt Barker, Flaxley, Macclesfield (not the one by Manchester), and Strathalbyn where we stopped and spoke to 2 lovely tourist info people. One who was actually from the UK originally and thought we were from where Heartbeat is from ha-ha!!On the last leg of the journey we headed through Currency Creek, Middleton and Port Elliot until we arrived at Victor Harbour which is a 'cute' beach town as the lasy in the info centre would put it.And we have to agree it is beatifull!!
After a yummy BBQ and a long 12 hours sleep in the Beachfront holiday park opposite Granite Island, we got up ready to explkore the rest of the Yankalilla Bay and Fleurieu Peninsula. We drove through some lovely beach towns of Rapid bay and Second valley which used to be a boom town back in the 1950s, where they exported lots of lime but now it is derelict ghost town-but it did have a beautiful jetty with crisp blue water. Then back in Bruce we headed to Yankilla Bay to see where the HMS Hobart is at rest, Normanville and the final pit stop of the day Glacier rock which as you can guess from the name was where a Glacier cut through the rock many many years ago to leave a ferocious stream.Back to the holiday park which I forgot to mention has a swimming pool and a huge trampoline/bouncy castle thing; we went for a quick dip and then headed over to Granite Island via the loooooong jetty for a little blue penguin tour.Just got back from the tour where we got to see adult penguins returning from hunting to feed their young across the island. It is a nature reserve so we had to keep very quiet whilst the guides crept around showing where all the cute little penguins lived (Elena you would LOVE it).It was basically a biology lesson so we enjoyed it!!
We are heading towards Robe tomorrow I think, so toodle pip for now update you all soon, Night x x
