Last night in Adelaide and after a slow start to the town our opinions have changed, we have had a great few days despite the weather being a tad English.Went for a marathon of a walk around the town yesterday, we must have walked about 5ish miles in total!Started off at the Sunday market where we got some yummy cupcakes and we tried some lemon and chilli squid from NZ.It was so much tastier than any calamari fake squid we have ever tasted back home, plus this squid was a whopper it was 8 metres long apparently. Then off to the park where a Mediterranean festival was on.We spent the afternoon in the South Australia Museum which we LOVED!!!!I am sure to an Australian it was just another museum about Aussie animals etc, but to us it was fascinating looking at all the dangerous and some cute animals.Being a bit of a science geek I loved the fossil and opal exhibition which included the coolest machine ever called the cloud box where you could see with your own eyes natural radioactive behaviour.Anyways science bit over, we finally headed through the park over the river to the Adelaide Oval where stu got to have a wander round the cricket ground, which will hold England's Ashes test win next week!
Then today we have been on an adventure into the Adelaide Hills and the Borrassa Valley! We were woken up by a few noisy people in our room grrr but anyways we got up really early and got ready for our tour of 4 wineries, 1 of which you will all know is called Jacobs Creek. We learnt a lot about why it is called Jacobs Creek, firstly due to the founder William Jacob and secondly due to it being on a creek-not that interesting really. The wine there was ridiculously expensive compared to England a normal bottle you would get in Sainsbury's was about $23!! Then we toured a few more before we had a good old Aussie BBQ where I ate kangaroo for the first time which was actually yummy.BUT before we got to the wineries we went to the world's largest rocking horse (says what it is on the tin ha-ha) where we got to look at some Aussie animals, I saw my first Kangaroo. So eating Kangaroo at lunch made me feel a bit guilty the poor thing, but it was nice and I will def be having it again-sorry Joey!!Went to a few more wineries in the afternoon were we tried a fizzy Shiraz which was gorgeous and an irresistible Rose which we had to buy.We are saving it for a lovely night under the stars on our road trip.Brenda and John you would be proud of our wine skills now!!
That's about it really apart from complaining about the weather, it is getting brighter and sunnier but still got a horrible chilly wind Lwe pick up our Camper Van tomorrow which I am really excited about, got our route provisionally mapped out so we are ready to go.
Update you soon when we next have internet, toodle pip x x
