So up we got stupidly early on Saturday 23rd April to catch the 7 hr greyhound up to Port Macquarie. We got collected from the bus stop and headed to our rather odd Hostel....think 18-30 holiday resort but on a very very low budget-we had Quantas blankets as our doona!! That's how cheap it was!!
Anyways off we went for a wander around town which was very quaint and beachy. We headed to the beach for a paddle then onto the pub on the beach for a schooner just as the sun was setting, beautiful! After asking around for where to eat we decided on the Irish Pub Finnegan's. We met a lovely local couple who chatted to us all night and kept me safe from a random old drunk man saying that he loved my shoes hhhhmmmmmmmm!! Instead of the Australian Schooner we drank Stella in Pints for Mr Stu and half pints for me, how very typically English. To off we strode hand in hand back to Ozzie Pozzie where we bumped into 2 Irish Couples on holiday from Sydney (who we are now friends with back here). Stu was delighted to find people who enjoyed football so we stayed up to the wee hours watching Everton V Man U.
The next day I had a stupid idea to say to stu let's go on a bike ride down the coast and go camel riding. So off we headed on our very simple bikes along the coast up a million steep hills towards Lighthouse Beach. It was actually quite fun and I suppose good exercise for the amount of food and beer we consumed the previous night. We rode along Pacific Drive past Oaxley beach, Shelly Beach, Nobby Beach and Flynn's Beach before arriving to Nobby Obalisque-hmmm who made this name up must have been a boy!!
at last we arrived at Lighthouse beach where we hiked to find the camels only to discover there was a HUGE que and the camels where atad smelly :( so off we went in search for tea and cake instead.....much better idea. So on our bikes we got again and rode to the Rainforest for a wonder and in search of a cafe which we had heard was really good. After each yet more food and cake we somehow managed to get back onto our bikes and rode off into the sunset.............
Well maybe not we did head of in the sun towards the FREE (which Stu was very happy about) Koala Hospital where we got a talk about the Koalas and watched a feeding session which was sooooooooo cute!! All in all we enjoyed our biggest loser style 8hr bike ride. Looking back maybe an 8hr bike ride wasn't the best idea considering we had to then stay up till 00.45 am to catch the grey hound.
All in all Port M was a beautiful little town and would highly recommend it. Toodle pip x x
