Greetings from KL!! After a 21 hour boat, coach, miini bus and coach journey we finally arrived to the city of kuala lumpur!! Although the time we spent getting there was awfully long the jouney was suprisingly pleasant. we were dropped off at one point at the bottom of thailand approximately 1 hr from the malasian border at 3;30 pm and had to hang around until 7 pm so we used this opportunity to indulge in starbucks ;) courtesy of donna....thank you.
we finally arrived in KL at 5:30AM and hunted down our hostel but were not allowed to check in until 12PM so we slept on the sofas in the lobby area until 9ish then decided to go and explore the city. We were slightly worried as many people had said to us that it was very much like Bangkok. However we loved it and found the people extremely nice. We stayed in Chinatown which was very hustle and bustle.
So day 1 after our night on the couch we decided to make the most of the day and headed out to the Batu Caves on the outskirts of KL this meant we had to ride the tube. We spent the 1st hour heading the wrong way up the tube which was slightly amusing however we did then meet and older aussie couple that did the exact same thing!! HaHa. The Batu Caves were pretty impressive and to enter the caves we had to walk up 337 steps (i counted them) so we were knackered by the time we got to the top. What made the steps more exciting were the fact there were monkeys shooting around everywhere. Sarah was scared of the height so it took her about half an hour to get down the steps! By the time we were back from the caves we were exhausted so we decided to treat ourselves to Nandos for dinner then went to bed.
Day 2 and we were out the door at 6AM heading to the Patronus towers. The reason we were so early was because we were told they only give out so many tickets a day and you have to be there at 7 to que so we arrived at 7 to find we were third in the que and by 8:30 when the ticket counter opened there were still only about 40 people in the que!! Te Patronus towers were amazing, even better than what you see on the internet and the whole grounds surrounding it was very beautiful, so much so we were comparing it with Dubai!! The trip up the Patronus towers involved going to the sky bridge which connects the two towers at level 41 and then we eaded to the observation deck at level 86 one below the top! The weather was lovely so the view from the top was impressive as you will see from the photos. After our trip up the towers we decided to hit the gigantic mall which is at the base of the towers however we couldnt but anything as our bags are full enought as it is! We wanted to see the towers at night so decided to go to the cinema because it was a bargain! we watched identity thief which was soooo funny. seeing the towers at night was even more impressive than at day as the whole building was lit up and on one side there is a huge fountain show which we also watched. all in all it was a great day out!!
this sums up KL which we loved next stop is Singapore again by bus but the time the journey is only 5 hours!
we will be in touch from there, lots of love xx
