Bula, bula, bula!!
AKA hello from fiji, thats pretty much all we have heard all week long. The Fijians are so friendly they practically sing this to you. However i should mention that whilst they are friendly they are also the most laid back people on earth. To the point that it could take over an hour for them to serve you as they dont realise you are even sat down reading the menu, hehe but when we did get our food it was lovely so we cant complain!!
so we only had a week in fiji and due to lack of funds after 5 months travelling and because we of course have to save some ready for america we went for the easy and cheap option and spent the week on Nadi, which is the mainland. Our hostel cost just 5 pounds a night - we were a bit dubious to see what it was like as it seemed too good to be true...but it was all good in the end. The only sneaky thing was that we paid for a 4 bed dorm and when you arrive they take you into the 38 bed dorm!!! and show you your little 4 bed cubicle ha!!! The resort was right on the beach and had a pool and cheap drinks and food so it was an absolute bargain for travellers like us :)
There's not lots and lots to tell you about our week as after 5 weeks in the cold we were just enjoying the sunshine and being lazy for once hehe. We did do a day trip to see one of the islands as we couldnt come to fiji and not see the paradise islands. we wanted to visit a few others but as they are all private resorts you can only visit on an organised trip or if you are staying there. So the trip we did took us first to a kind of sand dune in the sea which is great for snorkelling, the guys on the boat took us on a guided underwater tour and we saw stingrays, squids and sea horses so that was cool...its not quite the barrier reef in terms of coral and fish but it was good to see. It was also quite funny as when we were scuba diving and snorkelling the great barrier reef all we ever got told was ' don't touch the coral or aggravate the fish as we need to protect the area' however this isnt the case here. One of the guys was picking up all sorts and even threw a few rocks along the sand to show us the stingray, i guess they do what they like here ha! So after our snorkelling we went to Malolo Island which is home to Plantation Resort and this really was paradise, just what you expect fiji to be. we had a bbq all you can eat lunch in one of the restaurants which we took full advantage of, we were both stuffed!! and then we spent the afternoon lazing around on the beach, it was a great day!!! we definetly understand why all the kiwis go on holiday here now!
So that pretty much sums up fiji, other than lazing around we just drank, ate and played volleyball on the beach so its safe to say we loved our week in the sun and it gave us a chance to relax before we hit america for the last 3 weeks of ouir trip...we cant believe were now off to our final country and soon we will be home ahhhh!!
We will be in touch from America!! lots of love xxxxxxxx
