Hi all, another quick update for you all, although I'm a few days behind now! We left Daydream Island on 31st Jan and headed across to the mainland, Airlie Beach, which was lovely, a really chilled out place. We were staying at the Island View BB which was great and just like it was on the internet. Our room had a lovely sea view which included the marina (from a distance as we were pretty high up - in fact by the time we had walked back to the bb on at night I felt like Id done an hour on a treadmill (can be no bad thing with the lovely food we're eating!) The weather was better when we get to Airlie Beach, particularly the first and third day. (It was raining non stop before we left Daydream, so much so the boat trip was cancelled, although it was still absolutely boiling!) We had a walk down the main street and its quite an eclectic mix of old and new and travellers and locals, the kind of place with lots of juice bars but at the same time, lots of vino bars. Along the front is a very picturesque lagoon, which is a really good idea so that people can have a dip without the fear of a croc or a shark having them for lunch. That night I tried the local dish of barramundi and chips (fish and chips) which was delicious. The following day, was much the same but we explored the other way and then stopped off at the Coral Sea Resort to have a glass of wine overlooking the sea (a common theme!) After much toing and froing we decided to book on the Camira saling trip to Whitehaven (the one we had previously been booked on from Daydream), so the following morning I dosed myself up on travel sickness pills and off we went. The trip was fantastic and we were really lucky with the weather, there were some showers but on the whole it stayed nice and we took some cracking pictures at Whitehaven beach and enjoyed a lovely bbq. Promise we will get some pics up when we finally manage to get internet in the room again. We got talking to a girl on the boat who was travelling by herself and was originally from Manchester who had a plaster on her arm, I asked her what it was for and she advised she had been bitten by a whitetail spider, I think the poor girl and the same knowledge of local wildlife as me as she seemed quite unfazed by this (as did I) whereas Iain who is a damn sight more knowledgeable on such matters thought this was a little disturbing! Overall our time at Airlie Beach was good fun and three short days later it was time to depart to Brisbane, so we took a boat over to Hamilton Island and from there flew to Brisbane.....as we're now in Surfers Paradise, were a little behind on updating this, but we will be back soon with the next installments! Love to you all, take care....xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
