We left Phillip Island yesterday morning after being awoken by torrential rains, this time the words character building really did spring to mind as we took down our soaking wet tent under such conditions. Following this we decided to move onto our next spot, it transpired that somewhere between me and mr google there was a significant error made in terms of the distance from Phillip Island and Mallacoota, as it transpired it was a tad longer than the initial two hours we had anticipated and instead was a not insignificant 6 hours 21 minutes to be precise. We considered staying over at Lakes Entrance but once we arrived we decided we could manage to continue onto Mallacoota, which we did.
We arrived around sixish and headed to the Mallacoota foreshore camping ground and I say this with no sarcasm when I say it was the best accommodation in town! From our camp spot, we had prime views of the boats and Mallacoota inlet (pics as usual on fb) and the campsite reminded me of an episode of friends. All the campers were so very friendly and all seemed to have been there for quite some time. Unfortunately when it came to erecting the tent, we were surrounded by gale force winds, which led to a few entertaining moments ( neither of us, particularly Iain would have used the word entertaining last night).
This morning we went for an explore around the inlet and it was definitely very pretty but we set off for Merimbula, crossing the border between Victoria and New South Wales around 12 pm today.
On route we passed through Eden and Pambula before arriving at the Merrimbula beach holiday park. We have ocean views from our camp spot and round the other side you can see where the river meets the sea - gorgeous. I have to say this is the nicest campsite I have ever stayed in so far, it even has a heated pool on the clifftop overlooking the ocean for a mere $34:)
We've already been to the supermarket to get supplies for dinner and now we're going for a pre-dinner stroll.

rsfarra What trippers! You make me laugh.. Mr Tweedly, make sure you throw in a few romantic surprises along the way - think Mrs Tweedly is doing very well with the camping and deserves a few little treats.. Sorry bout the weather .. you are probably well on the way to "beautiful today, perfect the next" weather. Joe and I head off to Gold Coast tuesday morning - will be thinking of you there! xx
