Hi all, We have just arrived in Alice Springs from a great trip out to Kings Canyon. Had an amazing time there and found the most expensive fuel of our trip so far at $2.35 per litre! Far out! The canyon was lovely, probably one of our favorite places so far. Unfortunately when we were there it was incredibly windy, so decided against doing the ridge walk as we didn't want the kids to blow off the edge! We made it to the NT! Had a great (long) drive in from Coober Pedy on Sunday. Spent pretty much the entire day in the car racking up the km's but also seeing heaps of incredible things along the way. Here was I thinking that the landscape would be desolate and unchanging, but it varied so much, from the lunar scape out of Coober Pedy, to areas which had large amounts of spinifex grass, mulga bushes and desert oaks. G'day from Coober Pedy. We arrived late yesterday with full intentions of only staying one night but this place is AMAZING, so we booked one more night. Spent today exploring this incredible place. Visited Tom's Opal Mine, where we were allowed to wander around down in the tunnels and see what an opal mine looked like from the underneath. The miners use an ultraviolet light to find the opals - they shine up as bright white under the uv light. Tried to talk Smil...

Finally we are off! Well,after a very stressful and expensive couple of days getting The Beast repaired in Adelaide we are happy to report all is well and we have resumed our journey. Had a beautiful drive past the Flinders Ranges to Port Augusta this afternoon and arrived just as the sun was beginning to set with gorgeous bright pinks and oranges. Well, what can I say about cars? Nothing nice at the moment. Seems the Beast was quite ill indeed and has had an overnight stay at the mechanics here where lots of work was done (ca-ching!). We have been assured that this was all just usual wear and tear and we were just unlucky (no kidding!)
