Vientiane
After a rather bumpy 4hr journey (not 2-3 as quoted - although we were getting used to Laos time!) we arrived at Vientiane . . . . . 2hrs later we'd all booked our transport out the next day! Whether it was a combination of tiredness, love of previous places and the fact we were back in a city I'm not sure, but we wanted out. There does seem to be a few tourist attractions around but in the words of Neesha's friend who visited previously 'we found it dirty and uninspiring'. Sinead and I were also conscious of our time constraints - still having Cambodia, Vietnam and the Thai Islands to fit in, so we decided to cut and run! It was time to say our goodbyes again with bottom lips out and after meeting some really nice people we were back to 'just the two of us' :O, will be nice to get out for a romantic meal or 2 though hopefully - and I'm sure we'll meet people along the way lol.
So as I write this, Neesha and Leanne are getting ready for a 24-32hr bus trip to Hanoi and planning to go North to South Vietnam, we on the other hand have decided to head down Laos en route to the '4000 islands' before crossing into Cambodia. I'm tapping away with the laptop bouncing around and Sinead nodding off and head-butting my shoulder, we're off on our first leg to a little town called Tha Khaek, not a lot to see by all accounts but worth a look all the same, we had a chat with a German couple already who recommended a stop at Pakse also which would be our last stop before '4000 Islands' . We opted for VIP bus so it's actually pretty cool, Air Con, footrests, fully reclining chairs . . .just a shame about the roads . .ah well, we're due to arrive at around 7pm so we'll let you know how it goes :) Peace!
