Tasmania is an outstandingly picturesque island (www.discovertasmania.com.au)! The amount of stunning photos we saw before we even set foot here did not leave much to the imagination. You can do everything here - from diving in temperate (temperate? Is 10 degree C water temperate? Sounds f£$%king cold to me!), but crystal clear water and kayaking to taking coastal flights to admire the scenery to eating in outstanding restos and drinking some fantastic wine - with photos to prove it!
But the weather STILL had not cleared up overnight! So much for clearing up in an hour or so, Tom! Instead of walking to world famous places like Wineglass Bay (very picturesque according to all the photos we saw anyway) we saw plenty of windswept and rained on places and bays. But, it did not diminish our fun or enjoyment at all. Our little camper van, which we had nicknamed "The Cosy Devil", was our home from cosy home! When it was raining, tea and biscuits where a fantastic antidote to the weather and just added to the drama of where we were! Come the night stop a bottle of red was even better!
We didn't think that it was possible to see so much change in the short time that we had driven up from Remarkable Cave in the south to where we eventually pulled up for the night at Denison Beach. But we were blown away! This morning was all livestock farming and short brown-grassed paddocks populated with cattle and sheep and low lying woodlands. Lunchtime was rocky outcrops watching a few small fishing vessels bobbing the swell of the sheltered cove with the sunlight dappled as the sun played hide and seek with a stroll along Bicheno's almost "Lord of the Rings" beach. Supper was in grove of trees behind the dunes of a deserted white sanded beach next to a still and tranquil river slowly discharging its cargo into the waves beyond with only the seagulls' cries to disturb us!
A little chill in wind and the occasional drizzle would not stop us enjoying a bottle of red wine and campervan made supper!
