Day 6

Today we had a free day in Venice.

We had breakfst in a local cafè and quickly realised that bruschetta, and a flat white in Italy is vastly different to that in Australia. Despite our interesting breakfast, we put some washing on and got set to 'get lost' in Venice.

We walked over the Rialto bridge and into the San Polo district of Venice and wandered around for a couple of hours. The great thing about Venice, is that each corner brings a new surprise. Unexpected piazza's, restaurants and street performers were abundant. We stopped for a coffee at Campo San Polo and watched the world go by for half an hour.

We found our way to a nice restaurant overlooking the Canale della Guidecca and had a nice lunch watching the boats go back and forth. From here we wandered back past the Rialto Bridge to our accomodation. We spent the night eating pizza, reading, playing cards, drinking wine and listening to music.

Tomorrow we have a guided extensive tour of Venice, including St Mark's Basillica and Murano Island.
